Sherman Alexie just won the National Book Award for Young People's Literature for his novel The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian. If you were lucky enough to see him at Gunn or at Kepler's on his recent book tour, you'll agree with me when I say - he deserved it! It's about a boy named Junior who leaves his troubled school on the Spokane Indian Reservation to attend an all-white farm town school where the only other Indian is the school mascot.
